Sonic Rolls Out Limited Time Menu Items

Sonic has introduced some new items to their menu for the first quarter of 2013. They are concentrating on side dishes and desserts instead of entrees. Although they are not very big in size, they pack a lot of fat and calories. Here is a look at Sonic’s new menu items.

Sonic is offering 2 new sides and 3 new desserts. These items are offered on limited time basis although they may become a permanent fixture on the menu if the demand is high. The new Spicy Jumbo Popcorn Chicken comes in 2 new sizes – small and large.

Spicy Jumbo Popcorn Chicken

The Spicy Jumbo Popcorn Chicken is loaded in sodium. The small size is 113g which is about the same amount as a medium serving of fries. The bad thing is that the popcorn chicken has almost 3 times the amount of sodium. It has almost twice as much sodium as a medium size order of tater tots. The large size of Spicy Jumbo Popcorn Chicken is 191g. That would be 30% less than most burgers on the menu, but the sodium content I s higher than every burger that Sonic offers.

Sweet Potato Tots

The Sweet Potato Tots are a healthier alternative to the normal tater tots that Sonic offers. The large size is lower in every category including sodium where it is 45% lower. The Sweet Potato Tots would not be considered a healthy meal, but they are the healthiest side dish on the Sonic menu.

Fudge Brownie Molten Cake Sundae

The Fudge Brownie Molten Cake Sundae is a brownie covered in ice cream, whipped cream, and fudge. It is high in calories like you would expect it to be, but it is also high is cholesterol and fat. The nutrition content is equal to many large burgers and that is not a good thing.

Strawberry Banana Split Molten Cake Sundae

If you had a dessert with fruit, you would think that it would be better than others. Sonic has proven that theory to be wrong. The 28g of fat is more than most side dishes on the menu. The Strawberry Banana Split Molten Cake Sundae is almost as bad as every other dessert on the menu so you might as well pick the one that you enjoy the most.

Turtle Molten Cake Sundae

The Turtle Molten Cake Sundae is the worst of the bunch. It has more than half of the recommended daily allowance of fat and almost 40% of a day’s worth of sodium. The 70mg of choleaterol is higher than even some burgers. If you had this one after your meal, you better not eat again until the next day.
