How To Eat Healthy At Jack In The Box

Eating healthy at Jack In The Box can be tricky, but there are several menu items that are not too high in fat, calories, and sodium.

Jack In The Box is a fast food restaurant started in San Diego in 1951. They now have over 2,200 locations and they are still expanding. The chain is notorious for its clown mascot named Jack and the Jack antenna ball that many people put on their cars. Their menu has a wide range of items from tacos to egg rolls and also serves breakfast. The chain is not known for its healthy menu items, but if you choose carefully, you can have a meal without completely destroying your diet.

Choosing healthy items at Jack In The Box can be a difficult task. The popular Jumbo Jack has 23g of fat and 907mg of sodium even without cheese. Most of the burgers have a large amount of calories with the exception of the Hamburger Deluxe. This one has only 360 calories and 530mg of sodium.

The chicken products at Jack In The Box can be a mixed bag. The Chicken Fajita Pita has only 330 calories but it has a whopping 990mg of sodium. The Chicken Teriyaki Bowl has just 6g of fat but it has 692 calories and 1703mg of sodium. The Grilled Chicken Salad would be the best choice with 240 calories, 8g of fat, and 640mg of sodium.

The side choices can be a real pitfall. The Bacon Cheddar Potato Wedges have 45g of fat and the 6 piece Mozzarella Sticks have 1190mg of sodium. The French fries are a good thing to stay away from. They are very high in both fat and sodium. The Grilled Chicken Strips would be a good choice with only 250 calories and 7g of fat.

Jack In The box has introduced a line of deli sandwiches, but they will not do your diet any favors. The Deli Trio Grilled Sandwich has 624 calories, 28g fat, 2442mg sodium, and 76mg of cholesterol. The Turkey Bacon & Cheddar Sandwich has 664 calories, 31g fat, 2174mg of sodium, and 97mg of cholesterol. Steer clear of the sandwiches.

The breakfast menu does not contain any healthy selections. All of the breakfast burritos at Jack In The Box have at least 600 calories and 1300mg sodium. The Steak and Egg Burrito has 810 calories, 50g of fat, and 1500mg of sodium.

The Jack In The Box Taco has become somewhat of a legend in the fast food world by virtue of its unidentified meat. One look at them would lead you to believe that they are the unhealthiest items on earth. However, the taco has just 194 calories, 11g of fat, 320mg of sodium, and 13mg of cholesterol. Surprisingly, these numbers compare favorably to many other restaurant tacos.

Like most fast food restaurants, Jack In The Box has quite a few menu items that would be considered part of a healthy diet, but if you choose carefully, there are some meals that won’t be too hard on your diet.

Ranked #4 in Eating Out

We have two Jack in the Box fast food restaurants here in Colorado Springs, but I haven't eaten at either one of them since I moved here this past July. Actually I'm not one for eating at fast food restaurants period. I love to cook and prefer cooking my own meals at home. When I do eat out, I prefer a nice restaurant where I'm served at the table. Anyway, this was a well-written review to which all I can add is that eating at any fast food restaurant can be a challenge of Herculean proportion.

Nice share and helpful suggestions. Actually, I didn't even know that this restaurant was still around. They were here in IL years ago...but have since disappeared. Thanks for sharing....voted this one up

I think I had better stay clear of Jack. Very informative and great article!
