Healthy Fast Food Choices

Healthy fast food choices

You rarely see the words “healthy” and “fast food” in the same sentence. Some say that healthy fast food is too good to be true and, for the most part, it is. We all wish we had more than 24 hours in a day to get everything done, but we just don’t (much less time to cook homemade meals!). While eating on the run to keep up with this fast-paced world, consider the alternatives to burgers and fries.

Most restaurants now-a-days serve some pretty great salads. Zaxby’s and Chick-fil-a are two personal favorites of mine! While you have the choice of junking it up with fried chicken, there is also a grilled chicken option which still satisfies. Add some fat free honey-dijon dressing and you have one tasty, healthy and filling lunch!

There are also fast food restaurants such as Moe’s, Willy’s or Subway which offer you a variety of salads, wraps and sandwiches. Beans and meats and vegetables – oh, my! These “build your own” shops allow you to leave off the excess fat like mayonnaise, sour cream or cheese which can add up quick in your calorie count!

While it can be difficult to eat healthy on the run, keep in mind these important tips to help you with your food selection process:

1. Drink water with your meals and throughout the day. Staying hydrated cuts food cravings and soda and sugary drinks can quickly pack on the calories!

2. While you’re getting food fast – that doesn’t mean YOU need to eat fast. Remember to chew thoroughly as to not over-eat. Eating to the point where you feel like you need an elastic band around your pants is a no-no.

3. Portion control! We’ve all heard it, so start living by it! By all means everyone needs a little indulgence every once in awhile! Just don’t head to the local Dairy Queen and get a banana split every time something goes wrong!

Eating healthy on the run is definitely difficult, but not impossible. Keep in mind restaurants that will fit your needs and don’t feel bad about being picky sometimes! It is the customer service industry after all – stand up for yourself and say “no mayo, please!” I promise you, the cashier or server really doesn’t care if you want your dressing on the side!
